Dani’s Volunteer Story
‘I feel that I am part of this fabulous group of humans that connects with, and enhances the non-human world.’
Dani started volunteering with The Green Team in 2021 on an ad hoc basis, then soon became a regular with our holiday programmes and monthly Green Volunteers and Green Explorers.
Recently, she has also enjoyed supporting our new Green Changemakers programme and, whenever possible, is keen to volunteer with our Green Volunteers residential programmes.
Mandy, our Volunteer Coordinator, talks about the difference Dani is making,
‘Dani is an absolute joy!
‘She supports the young people and works alongside them, enabling them to get the best out of their Green Team experience. She is super enthusiastic and brings a beautiful playful energy to all the projects she volunteers on… she supports our staff very well too!’
Dani’s flexibility as a volunteer is much appreciated with all the groups that she has supported over the years. She is also a Forest School Practitioner & Outdoor Educator which is great as she has become sessional worker for the Green Team too.
We asked Dani to share a little more about her connection to nature and why she chose The Green Team.
‘My family and I moved from overseas to Edinburgh during the Covid pandemic and I wanted to get involved with an organisation that connected young people to the natural world.
‘I love walking in nature and making things out of all sorts of natural materials.
‘A friend recommended The Green Team and I am, to this day very grateful for that introduction to like-minded humans.
‘It really appeals to me that there are many different volunteer opportunities to choose from, with diverse age groups, in various locations, led by professional Green Team staff.
‘Every programme is well organised and supported and I feel that I am part of this fabulous group of humans that connects with, and enhances the non-human world.’
And your Green Team highlights?
‘Yes, I love residentials! I’m 58 years old and being part of an extended adventure with young people grants me the possibility not just to be active with conservation tasks in a natural place, but also to engage in meaningful relationships with the next generation.’

VOLUNTEERING WITH THE GREEN TEAM
The Green Team is committed to reducing inequality, valuing diversity and enabling inclusion. We have also signed up to The Volunteer Charter through Volunteer Scotland which helps to ensure that volunteers are engaged in meaningful, inclusive and legitimate tasks which do not undermine the role of paid workers.
We welcome applications from people from all parts of the community, particularly where we are under-represented. Currently, this includes people who identify as having a disability, and those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups.
