The Green Team 30th Birthday

It’s our 30th Birthday!

2025 is a very special year for The Green Team because this year we are celebrating our 30th Birthday!

30 years ago, The Green Team was set up to offer environmental volunteering opportunities to young people doing their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. At this time the main focus was environmental education as a means of engaging young people in wildlife conservation and volunteering.

From a tiny organisation run by a handful of volunteers, The Green Team now employs 11 part-time staff, supported by 58 volunteers, 5 sessional workers and an active Youth Panel.

We are proud of our impact on the young people we engage and of how they have contributed to the growth of our charity.

There’s so much to celebrate!

This 10-minute video was created by students from Edinburgh College to celebrate our 30th Birthday. A BIG thank you to them.

Meanwhile, here’s a quick reminder of why we do what we do and why there is much to celebrate.

The Green Team provides transformative programmes for young people of all ages and backgrounds which use nature connection as a platform for learning, social connection and self-discovery.

Our annual Impact Report highlights how the Green Team transforms young lives and how we can help to get young people back on their feet.

Looking to the future, we have been developing The Green Team Strategy through extensive consultation with young people, including our Youth Panel, programme participants, Green Team staff, board members, volunteers and partners. Their voices have shaped the direction of our work for the next five years.
