Our amazing and unstoppable patron, Peter Wright, is getting back in the saddle this summer to take on another challenge to help young people like Chloe improve their mental wellbeing.
“I wish I could be here all week. Usually I have regular suicidal thoughts, but at Thrive I don’t have any at all. Usually I talk using my phone, but here I am able to talk and have talked more than I have in a long time. People here are kind and lovely. I don’t usually like the outdoors, but enjoy myself when I am here”
Chloe, Thrive participant
The challenges of Covid and the Cost of Living Crisis have had a significant, negative impact on young people’s mental health – referrals to the NHS’s Child and Adolescent Mental Services (CAMHS) in the Lothians more than doubled in the 4 years to September 2023.
Spending time in nature is a wonderful way to enhance mental health and the Green Team is a charity which undertakes some brilliant work in this space. As winners of the Nature of Scotland, Health and Wellbeing award in 2022, and through programmes we run, such as ‘Thrive’, we have made a huge difference to the lives of young people like Chloe.
Peter said of his challenge:
I am delighted to be cycling from the Mull of Galloway to Duncansby Head to support the amazing work the Green Team does. It is a 860km route from the South-West corner of Scotland to the North-East corner and will take me three weeks – I am 77 years old after all! Please give generously to encourage me, and most of all to help change the lives of young people as they face up to the challenges of these times.
Peter will be starting his journey on the 9th June, camping en-route to the finish line by the 1st of July.
Any donation you make to support Peter and our work to improve young people’s mental wellbeing is gratefully received. When you make your donation through Givey, the Green Team receives 100% of the donation. Your details are safe with Givey and donating is completely secure. What’s more, they never share your email address with any third parties except the Charity you donate to.
Good luck Peter!
