This volunteer’s week we’re taking the time to celebrate and thank all our amazing volunteers. We have people behind the scenes helping with fundraising, events and admin, volunteers capturing amazing images and video to portray our work, our board who give of their time tirelessly, our youth panel who help steer us right and with real thought and enthusiasm and ofcourse, our volunteer leaders – the backbone of our organisation. We could not do all that we do to transform the lives of young people without you all.

For this we are truly grateful and indebted.

You bring with you skills, knowledge, passion, kindness and empathy. In return we hope we bring something to your lives that makes it all worthwhile. Whether that’s connection, enhanced skills, professional development, fulfilment, a sense of belonging or giving back and of course, joy.

Here’s what Kate Wilkinson, who runs our Green Shoots programme, had to say about the difference our volunteer leaders make:

“Our volunteers do so much to support our programmes. They bring so many skills and such a brilliant energy with them and help create a safe and nurturing environment for our young people. With Green Shoots, people give up their time once a week for a 10-12 week time block and it’s wonderful to see the community build between the staff team and the young people. This is 100% down to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers and the commitment they show to the young people over that time. I have learnt so much from the people who come and volunteer with us and enjoyed being able to share my skills and knowledge too. It always feels a nice exchange and our projects are hugely benefited by our wonderful volunteer team! Thank you all for all you have given and all you continue to give. You are truly wonderful people who have made and continue to make a significant and powerful impact on the lives of our young people.”

Sarah Waterfield, co-ordinator of our Skylarks programme, added:

“Working with volunteers on the Skylarks programme is such a delight. Everybody brings such enthusiasm that the group can’t help but share it by the end of the sessions. This has enabled groups to learn to see the natural world in new ways, one recent group were amazed that there was so many differences between trees and that there were even different types! Volunteers sharing their own perspectives, passions and stories makes sessions much more inclusive for participants too.”
