Project Description

Make a real difference to the greenspaces and woodlands around you by joining Green Volunteers, the Green Team’s environmental volunteering programme for 12-18 year olds. Help to make improvements to local greenspaces and the wider countryside through tasks such as planting trees, creating homes for wildlife and making the outdoors more accessible for people.

Working together we make improvements to the ecology and bio-diversity of the local environment, learn and develop outdoor skills and increase understanding of the natural world and our part in it.

Projects are led by the Green Volunteers Project Co-ordinator and are supported by adult volunteers. We work at a variety of parks, woodlands and nature reserves in and around Edinburgh. The programme runs on Sundays throughout the year with some full weekend residentials – join us for every session or pick and choose the days that work for you.

We provide tools and equipment, waterproofs/boots if required and full safety instructions for the task ahead. Transport is provided by minibus from a central location.

Green Volunteers supports the achievement of the Volunteering and Skills sections of the DofE Award, and the John Muir Award. The programme is open to anyone who wants to make a positive difference to the environment whether they want to undertake an award or just have fun and meet new friends.

‘It makes you feel good about yourself that you have done something positive with your day’

‘I would definitely say give it a go. You are going to meet new people, learn new skills and it’s a great way to explore your local area and get to know it a bit better’
