Volunteer Leader Training 2013-14

Welcome to the new Green Team Training Programme for 2013. All courses are free to Green Team Volunteers unless otherwise stated. Places must be booked through the office and will be given on a first come first served basis. Contact Mandy (Contact details).

Leader Induction Training

Date: February 1st-2nd February 2014
Venue: Pilton Retreat outdoor Centre, Ratho
Times: 9.30am Saturday to 5pm Sunday

This weekend residential course gives new volunteer leaders everything they need to know to help deliver a Green Volunteers project. We will cover leadership skills, roles and responsibilities, health and safety, environmental activities, conservation skills in a fun and stimulating way. All transport, accommodation and food costs covered.

Course: First Aid in the Outdoors

Date: 18th May (Saturday)
Venue: Tynecastle High School
Times: 9.30am – 4.30pm

This is a wonderful 1 day certificated course of First Aid in the Outdoors which is being created for the Green Team. The instructor is Philip Bagnall. Loads of practical sessions, senarios and an instructor who is very personable. Only 12 places available so sign up quick. Bring a packed lunch, coffee & tea provided.

Outdoor Learning: Nature Awareness

Date: 8th June (Saturday)
Venue: Hermitage of Braid
Times: 10.00am – 4.00pm

By using a range of outdoor learning activities learn to identify common trees and plants through folklore, foraging and games. Learn to cook some easy outdoor food over an open fire.
- Outdoor learning activities to use with children and young people
- Identification techniques for common plants and trees
- Foraging and edible foods
- Plant folklore and stories
- Easy outdoor cooking
- Safe fire lighting techniques

Green Team Summer Bash

Date: 26th June (Wednesday)
Venue: Holyrood Park (near the Education Centre)
Times: 6pm onwards

Sausages , burgers and time to catch up with everyone. Bring some friends , bring some refreshments and a contribution for the BBQ. After food the fun begins as we have our big game of Rounders in the shadow of an extinct volcano – hope to see you there.

Course: MiDAS (Minibus Drivers Awareness Scheme)

Dates: Various dates throughout the year.
Location: LCTS Harry Lauder Road , Portobello
Times: Classroom sessions 9.30 – 1.00pm (then on road session)
Cost: Free to Green Team volunteers

MiDAS is the nationally recognised standard for minibus training. It comprises an on-road driving assessment, plus classroom-based training. Any Green Team Volunteer who has a D1 status on their driving licence can opt in for this training. Contact Mandy for details.

End of Year Christmas Bash

Date: Monday 9th December 7.00 – late
Venue TBC

Our end of year Christmas Pub Quiz is always a good night. Join us as we group up and try and find that elusive winning team. Family and friends welcome , teams made on the evening.
