Green Volunteers is a programme of residential weekends and one day projects for 14-25 year olds led by adult volunteers trained by the Green Team. We look forward to seeing you there! You can download this programme as a pdf file.

Sunday Projects 2012-13

December 2nd Water of Leith
Make improvements to the paths and habitats at Craiglockart Dell. Warm yourself around the fire at the end of the day.

27th January Butterdean Wood
Create a new footpath through the woods then warm yourself round the fire at the end of the day.

10th February Springfield Mill
Tree pruning and woodland maintenance in the orchard. Cook something tasty over the fire.

24th February Levenhall Links
Plant a variety of native trees and learn about the birds at this important East Lothian wildlife site.

3rd March Longniddry & Gosford beach
Path improvements along the John Muir Way with beach clean up surveys and rock pooling.

24th March Hermitage of Braid
Vegetation clearance and footpath work within the walled garden. Help cut back gorse from the slopes.

7th April Penicuik Lost Garden
Help the community to establish a productive garden by cutting back vegetation and preparing the ground.

Residential week 2013

1-5th July Arran
Conservation work and estate management with the National Trust for Scotland rangers with the grounds of Brodick castle and on the slopes of Goat Fell. £200.

Weekends 2013

16-17th March West Lothian wonders
Environmental improvements around the art installations at Jupiter Artland followed by conservation work at Linlithgow Loch.

8-9th June Borthwick Castle & Currie Woods
Help the Woodland Trust with some footpath work in the lovely Currie Woods. Find out about the flora of this special site. Campfire entertainment.

7-8th September Barnside Farm
Improve hedgerow and woodland habitats on this upland organic farm followed by fossil hunting at a local beach. Cooking in the Village Hall.

26-27th October Vogrie
Enjoy a magical autumn experience at Vogrie Country Park. Help clear out the ponds and get ready for Halloween!

21st April Hopetoun House
Help cut back the invasive shrub rhododendron and improve the paths. Meet the resident colony of red deer.

12th May Linlithgow Loch
Work to improve the wildlife garden beside this historic loch with special entry to Linlithgow Palace.

26th May Burdiehouse Burn
Help to cut back encroaching vegetation, clear away unwanted fences and clear out the burn

2nd June Roslin Country Park
Help the Midlothian rangers to maintain the woodland and footpaths and find out how gunpowder used to be produced in this area.

16th June Lord Ancrum’s Wood, Newbattle
Scrub clearance and removal of vegetation from the historic grounds of the ancient Newbattle Abbey.

25th August East Lothian coast
Make a coastal journey from Gullane to Yellowcraig clearing up the beaches and identifying the coastal birds.

1st September Gore Glen Country Park
Woodland maintenance and clearance of broom from this impressive Midlothian gorge. River dipping and mini rafts.

22nd September Cammo Country Park
Help to clear away unwanted fences and restore the woodlands of this lovely Edinburgh park.

6th October Corstorphine Hill
Help to cut back the invader bush salmonberry from the woodlands and enjoy a birds eye view of Edinburgh from the top of Corstorphine Tower.

3rd November Blackness Castle
Conservation within the grounds and coastal woodlands with the chance to explore this magnificent historic castle

17th November Royal Edinburgh Community Gardens
Improve the wildlife potential of the hospital grounds through planting and creating habitats.

1st December Water of Leith
Make improvements to the footpaths and wildlife habitats along this section of river at Craiglockart Dell.
