The Green Team (Edinburgh & Lothians)

Green Schools with the Green Team

"A Curriculum for Excellence offers opportunities for all children and young people to enjoy first-hand experience outdoors, whether within the school grounds, in urban green spaces, in Scotland’s countryside or in wilder environments. Such experiences motivate our children and young people to become successful learners and to develop as healthy, confident, enterprising and responsible citizens." Curriculum for Excellence Through Outdoor Learning

The Green Team is a young people’s environmental organisation specialising in practical outdoor activity. We take part in local community projects to improve footpaths, clear litter and enhance green spaces for bio-diversity. We offer opportunities for Secondary schools to take part in practical outdoor activities carrying out environmental improvements within school grounds, adjacent parks and green spaces or further afield in local nature reserves or country parks.

Activities may include tree and hedge planting, woodland management, clearance of invasive or non-native species, habitat creation or restoration, path improvements or work in wetlands. Schools can also take part in surveys, transects and identification projects. All activities involve physical activity, outdoor learning and fun! Young people will work together to carry out improvements to a local park, footpath or greenspace.

Activities can be tailored to meet the following:
~ Healthy living and active lifestyles
~ Environmental projects
~ Field Studies
~ Eco Schools
~ Bio-diversity
~ Outdoor Learning programmes
~ Curriculum for Excellence
~ Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

We can be as flexible as you need us to be. We realise that every school is different and we will work with you to design the project or programme you need.

We can provide half or full day sessions or a programme of four weekly sessions. The Green Team will provide a member of staff, tools and safety equipment. We can also provide waterproofs, boots or wellies. We cannot provide materials e.g. trees or plants but we can advise you where to find funding for these items. We prefer the maximum group size not to exceed 15 for a better individual experience.

This work is funded by Scottish Natural Heritage as part of our Green Schools programme and can be offered at no cost to schools for a limited period. The Green Team is a City of Edinburgh Council approved provider. To find out more contact us.
